Welcome

Welcome

Velkommen til Roland. Or if you don't speak Norwegian, Welcome to Roland! Thanks for visiting our city's website. This is the official website for the City of Roland, Iowa, a friendly town of 1,284 people at the very center of Iowa.

The Mayor

The Mayor says...

Hello, I’m Mayor Andy Webb. I am a second-generation native Californian who moved to Roland to be closer to our son’s family after retiring as a pastor in the Free Methodist Church for 31 years. I and my wife Margie love our new home and community. I worked in public education and also do volunteering. I am very excited to represent the City of Roland.

Roland-Story Middle School

Roland-Story Middle School

Our kids go to Roland-Story Community Schools. Grades 5-8 are right here at Roland Middle School. Graduates of Roland-Story have a composite ACT score 2 points over the national average, and 1 point over the state average.

Roland Library

Roland Library

The current library opened in 2010 and is home to a great children's section, computers, DVDs, a guinea pig, and even books! It is our hub for activity on Main Street and is open six days a week.

Britson Park

Britson Park

Roland's newest attraction is Britson Park, on the city's west side. It has two softball/little league baseball fields, a playground structure, and lots of open area for soccer and pickup football games. The Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals donated a combined total of $15,000 to get the park going.

HELP NEEDED FOR FAMILY HISTORY

ATTENTION CURRENT AND PAST ROLAND RESIDENTS
HELP YOUR FAMILY HISTORY BE A PART OF ROLAND’S 150th CELEBRATION!
To celebrate Roland’s 150th anniversary, a book will be created to commemorate the occasion. Besides sharing our town’s history, we’d like to include stories of the families who have made Roland their home.
Please consider submitting a brief synopsis of your family story, whether you’ve been a life-long Roland resident of just newly arrived. A photo can also be submitted if you desire. Please include names of those in the photo. Family stories will be included in the sesquicentennial commemorative booklet to be available next summer.
While a town may be defined by its homes and buildings, it’s the families who have called it home that make it special. Please consider submitting your family’s story in the upcoming commemorative book!
We also welcome information about organizations and businesses.
Stories and photos can be submitted by email (roland150book@gmail.com) or in person at the Roland Library.
The deadline for inclusion in the book will be January 15, 2021
