Minutes of the Roland City Council
Regular Session
Wednesday, February 5, 2014 

The Roland City Council met in regular session on Wednesday February 5, 2014.  The meeting was held at 6:00 pm at the Roland Community Center with Mayor Roger Fritz presiding.  Council members present at roll call were Jerry Balmer, Larry Ford, Brian Hill, Doug Sargent, and Andy Webb.  Absent: none.  Also present were City Clerk Jodi Meredith, Street Superintendent Harold Hovick, Water/Wastewater Superintendent Nathan Hovick, and 3 visitors from the community.

It was moved by Ford and seconded by Webb to approve the consent agenda which included Agenda, Minutes from the January 15, 2014 Council Meeting, and Claims for February 5, 2014 in the amount of $29,539.84.  All were in favor, motion carried.

Public Input: There was no public input at this time.

Department Head’s Reports were as follows:

Street Department:  There are still vehicles parking in violation of the snow ordinance that the Sheriff’s Office needs to be ticketing.

Water/Wastewater Department:  A summary of the SRF meeting was given.

City Clerk:  Nothing to report.

A motion was made by Ford and seconded by Hill to support the idea of the school leasing the north diamond at Hennessey Field.  All were in favor, motion carried.

There was a discussion about what the City wants in the ordinance regarding using ATV’s for snow removal.

If any business owners are interested in a Façade Grant Program the council will discuss the idea, otherwise no action was taken on this issue.

The 2014/2015 budget was discussed with members from the Park and Pool Boards present to discuss their budgets.  A motion was made by Balmer and seconded by Ford to allow the budget to be published for the future public hearing using the numbers discussed at this meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.

Mayor/Council Comments: Mayor Fritz informed the council that the Story City GCC will have a supper for members on February 21 and someone is welcome to attend and speak about Roland.

CM Ford would like to see a new picture of Roland in the school’s board room.

Public Input:  There was no public input at this time.

With no further business at this time, Sargent moved for adjournment of the meeting at 7:52 pm seconded by Webb.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The next regular scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 6:00 pm at the Roland Community Center.
