Minutes of the Roland City Council
Regular Session
Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Note:  The following are unofficial until they are approved by the City Council at the next council meeting.

 The Roland City Council met in regular session on Wednesday July 2, 2014.  The meeting was held at 6:00 pm at the Roland Community Center with Mayor Jerry Balmer presiding.  Council members present at roll call were Brian Hill, Larry Ford, Jerry Zamzow, and Andy Webb.  Absent: Doug Sargent.  Also present were City Clerk Jodi Meredith and Water/Wastewater Superintendent Nathan Hovick.

It was moved by Ford and seconded by Hill to approve the consent agenda which included Agenda, Minutes from the June 18, 2014 Council Meeting and Claims for July 2, 2014 in the amount of $69,981.61.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 Public Input: There was no public input at this time.

Department Head’s Reports were as follows:

Street Department:  Mosquito spraying will be done before fireworks.

 Water/Wastewater Department:  One price for blasting and painting the pool is around $12,000.00.  The retrofit aerators for the lagoons have just been ordered by NutriJect.  There were only a couple of properties that notified the City of having sewer backup with this week’s flooding.  Tree cleanup will have to be done at the brush site before it can be opened to the public after the water goes down.

 City Clerk:  Working with Data Tech to get new software up and running. Demolition bids have been sent out again and are due back in July 11, 2014.

CM Sargent arrived at 6:03

A motion was made by Ford and seconded by Hill to approve Resolution 14-22: Resolution Amending the Library Employee Salaries.  Aye: Sargent, Ford, Webb, Zamzow, and Hill.  Nay: none.  Motion carried.

A motion was made by Sargent and seconded by Webb to approve Resolution 14-23: Resolution Amending Vine Water Street Project.  Aye: Zamzow, Hill, Sargent, Ford, Webb.  Nay: none.  Motion carried.

A motion was made by Webb and seconded by Ford to approve the Change Order 1 for the Vine Street Water Project at the request of the Iowa DNR and authorizing Nathan Hovick to sign any future Change orders for the Vine Street Project after notifying the council.  Aye: Ford, Sargent, Webb, Zamzow.  Nay: none.  Abstain: Hill.  Motion carried.

Mayor/Council Comments: CM Ford discussed that past work has helped with the city flooding. CM Webb reported a large hole by Bergen Church corner (Cottonwood & Maple)

Public Input:  There was no public input at this time.

With no further business at this time, Webb moved for adjournment of the meeting at 6:28 pm seconded by For.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The next regular scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 6:00 pm at the Roland Community Center.
